Getting Started
How do I create a household?
When you first sign in, you'll be asked to create a household or join an existing one. Give your household a name (e.g. "The Smiths" or "42 Maple Street"), and you're ready to start adding jobs.
How do I invite my household members?
In Settings, tap "Household" and you'll see an invite code and an "Email invite" button. You can either share the invite code directly with household members (they enter it in the app), or tap "Email invite" to send them a link that takes them straight to the join page. Pro tip: have one household member create the household and invite others — this prevents duplicate households and keeps everyone on the same page.
Can I join a household with an invite code?
Yes. When you sign in, you'll see the option to join an existing household. Enter the invite code you received, and you'll be added to that household.
Can I have multiple households?
Free tier: you can own one household but be a member of as many as you want. Pro tier: you can own multiple households and be a member of others.
Subscriptions & Pricing
Is HomeQueue Pro per user or per household?
Your Pro subscription is per user and covers all households you own. When you upgrade to Pro, any household you create automatically gets Pro features — and all members of that household get those features too, even if they're on the free tier personally.
What's included in Pro?
Pro gives you unlimited jobs, unlimited upkeep tasks, the ability to own multiple households, and file attachments on jobs. Free tier includes 5 active jobs, 3 upkeep tasks, and the ability to own one household.
If I downgrade from Pro to free, what happens to my extra jobs?
Your jobs stay in HomeQueue. If you have more than 5 jobs, you'll see all of them, but you won't be able to add new jobs until you're back under the 5-job limit. You can delete jobs or upgrade back to Pro anytime.
Can I cancel my subscription anytime?
Yes. You can cancel your Pro subscription at any time from Settings. Your household will move to the free tier, and the limits mentioned above will apply.
Using the App
How do I add a job?
Tap the plus button on the Jobs tab and enter a title — that's all you need to create a job. For a priority score (so HomeQueue can tell you what to tackle first), add effort level (Quick fix to Major multi-day project), estimated cost if relevant, and rate how important it is to your household (1–5 dots). These fields are optional but recommended so HomeQueue can prioritise your jobs. You can add notes, status, and assign it to a household member anytime.
What do the priority scores mean?
HomeQueue calculates priority based on effort, cost, and importance. A higher score means it's worth tackling sooner. The formula is consistent, so you can trust the scoring over time.
How do I use Siri to add a job quickly?
Say "Hey Siri, create HomeQ job" and HomeQueue will capture the job title instantly. You can come back anytime to add effort, cost, importance, and other details so HomeQueue can prioritise it for you. You don't need to fill everything in right away — it's perfect for capturing ideas on the go.
What's the difference between jobs and upkeep tasks?
Jobs are one-off tasks (paint the bedroom, fix the leaky tap). Upkeep tasks are things that repeat on a schedule (check smoke detectors every 6 months, service the air conditioner yearly).
Can I assign jobs to other household members?
Yes. When creating or editing a job, tap "Assigned to" and select a household member. If they have notifications enabled, they'll get a notification that they've been assigned a job.
What does job status mean?
Jobs have four statuses: Unscheduled (you know you need to do it, but don't have a timeline yet), Pending (ready to tackle), In Progress (currently working on it), and Completed (done). Use Unscheduled for jobs that aren't urgent — when you're ready to tackle them, change the status to Pending and HomeQueue will help you prioritise them in your plan.
Can I complete a job from the app?
Yes. Tap a job and change its status to Completed. HomeQueue will celebrate with you and track your progress. Completed jobs don't count toward your free tier job limit, so you can keep completing and adding new ones.
Can I attach photos or files to jobs?
Yes, on Pro tier. Tap "Photos & files" when creating or editing a job to add photos from your camera or library, or upload documents like PDFs or receipts. Free tier doesn't include attachments.
Upkeep Tasks
What are upkeep tasks?
Upkeep tasks are recurring jobs that repeat on a schedule — things like servicing the air conditioner every 6 months or checking smoke detectors annually. Set them up once, and HomeQueue reminds you when they're due.
How do I add an upkeep task?
Tap the Upkeep tab and tap the plus button. You can create a custom task or choose from over 50 pre-built templates covering common household maintenance — things like servicing the air conditioner, checking smoke detectors, or cleaning gutters. If you create a custom task, enter the title, how often it repeats, and when it's due.
Can I assign upkeep tasks to household members?
Yes. When creating or editing an upkeep task, tap "Assigned to" and select a household member. If they have notifications enabled, they'll get a notification that they've been assigned a task.
Can I get notified before an upkeep task is due?
Yes. When creating an upkeep task, set "Notify before" to how many days before the due date you want to be reminded. All household members with notifications enabled will get the alert.
What happens when I complete an upkeep task?
Tap "Done for now" on the task card. HomeQueue records the completion date and automatically schedules the next due date based on the repeat interval.
Can I delete an upkeep task?
Yes. Tap edit on the task and select delete. Deleted tasks cannot be recovered, so make sure you want to remove it before confirming.
Plan
How does the Plan tab work?
The Plan tab shows all your jobs organised by week, ranked by priority. When you add or change a job, a flashing "Optimise" button appears — tap it to see HomeQueue's recommendations for what to tackle when. Review the suggestions, accept them, and the button turns green "Ready to go." You stay in control of every change.
Can I manually schedule jobs or lock them in place?
Yes. Drag jobs between weeks to schedule them exactly when you want. Once a job is where you want it, tap the lock icon to lock it in place — the optimiser will work around locked jobs and won't move them.
How do I set my availability in the Plan?
Tap the availability dropdown at the top of the Plan tab. You can set how many hours you have available each weekend and mark specific days when you're unavailable. HomeQueue uses this to help optimise your plan around everyone's actual availability.
Can other household members see my availability?
Yes. All household members can see everyone's availability in the Plan tab so you can coordinate and make sure jobs are distributed fairly based on who has time.
Notifications
How do I turn on notifications?
In Settings, tap "Notifications" and allow HomeQueue to send notifications. You'll then receive alerts when you're assigned a job, household members make changes, and on Friday evenings for your weekend plan.
Why aren't I getting notifications?
Make sure notifications are enabled in Settings, and check your device's notification permissions for HomeQueue (Settings > Notifications > HomeQueue). Also, you must have a household and be an active member to receive notifications.
Households & People
What's the difference between a household owner, admin, and member?
Owner created the household and can delete it. Admin can manage members and settings. Members can add and complete jobs and upkeep tasks. Roles help keep the household organised.
Can I transfer household ownership?
Not yet — this feature is on the roadmap. Contact us if you need to change ownership.
